Interdisciplinary Expertise

For nearly 25 years I have been actively developing innovative publishing models for people doing interdisciplinary work.
Each year I run roughly 70 global research projects across the United Kingdom, Central and Eastern Europe, North America and Oceania. Each project brings together people working in academia, business, NGOs, practitioners and professionals. The work emerging from these projects pushes the boundaries of what kind of publishing is appropriate and meaningful for everyone involved.
I have developed models of interdisciplinary publishing which draw inspiration from a context of inclusive conversations. I call these ‘communities of dialogue’. Each community is grouped around a thematic ‘hub’ and each Hub has a number of themes. The Hubs are grounded in several areas of activity, including conferences, events, online education, symposia and more.
Books, journals, e-journals and other forms of publishing emerge from these lively streams of dialogues and engagements. Interdisciplinary publishing actively reflects these contexts and strives to envision and re-vision what it means to ‘do’ inclusive interdisciplinary publishing.
As a result of this activity, I am presently the originator of and Series Editor for three publishing houses:
At the Interface/Probing the Boundaries. This series with Brill/Rodopi encourages cutting-edge inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary projects. By bringing people together from differing contexts, disciplines, professions, and vocations, the aim is to publish conversations that are innovative, imaginative, and creatively interactive.
Emerald Interdisciplinary Connexions. This series with Emerald promotes innovative research and encourages exemplary interdisciplinary practice, thinking and living. The books in the series focus on developing dialogues between disciplines and among disciplines, professions, practices and vocations in which the interaction of chapters and authors is of paramount importance.
Inter/Connexions. This is a publishing house I founded to help encourage different kinds of publishing to suit the content and style of writing of each book. Originally called The Inter-Disciplinary Press, to date, it has published over 300 titles and 2 journals.
I was Head of Philosophy and Course Leader for Theology at Westminster College, Oxford. I walked away from formal academia to concentrate on developing creative new possibilities for interdisciplinary publishing. I am a former Fellow of Harris Manchester College in Oxford as well as a CEO of several companies involved in interdisciplinary work. I have also been successful in gaining accreditation from the British Accreditation Council.
I am always here for advice, suggestions, and feedback. Drop me a line and let us begin the conversation!
